A student of the École nationale supérieure d'arts de Cergy-Pontoise in Paris covered the statues of American artist Allan McCollum with silver paint (Allégories, created and installed in 2000, near Le Corum, in Montpellier). The repairs are estimated to cost the city of Montpellier over 30,000 euros.

Professor at École nationale supérieure d'arts de Cergy-Pontoise publicly supports illegal vandalism — school director René Denizot has no complaints

    Self-proclaimed "enfant
    terrible" student Orion Giret
MONTPELLIER - A student, Mr. Orion Giret, of l'École nationale supérieure d'arts de Cergy-Pontoise, severely and illegally vandalized five famous statues in the city of Montpellier. Assuming the false identity of a city employee, he covered all five statues with silver paint, completely ruining the original polished marble and resin surfaces. The statues must be entirely redone.

Jeffrey Rian, a professor at the school, published an enthusiastic approval of the unlawful conduct in a fashion magazine — and the Director of the School, René Denizot, expressed approval of the student's behavior, and he also approved the article written by one of his own professors to promote the student's behavior. It has recently created a scandal in Paris.

When asked about the responsibility of the school, Director René Denizot responded, "Orion Giret has been a student in our school since October 2007, and Jeff Rian is a schoolteacher here — but Rian's activities as an art critic and the student's activity outside of school are independent of their involvement here, and they alone are responsible." Denizot also said, "This idea in itself is not new but I find it quite innovative in that it works ... basically, the difference between an art school and a university is that we never pre-determine our goals, and each time we invent what we do."

The Illegal acts are embarrassingly promoted here on the blog of  "Purple Magazine," by Jeffrey Rian, professor at Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Arts de Cergy-Pontoise, and suposedly an art critic:
