ORION GIRET '(IN)TENSIONS'

Opening December 17th from 6pm until 9pm
Exhibition until January 21st

Outcasts Inc., in collaboration with Jeff Rian, will present a group of works by an an unknown French artist, Orion Giret.

“Orion Giret was a student of mine for around three weeks at the Ecole Nationale Supèrieure des Arts Cergy-Paris. He was the rare one who didn't feel the need to “finish” a work. An fairly careless artist, trying to link together subject matter and process like personality and appearance — boringly so. Orion, in a nutshell, simply copies other artists common on city streets into duplicates of work already made by others. I thought the experimental exhibition space recently created by Geraldine Postel and her company, Outcasts Inc., would be ideal to showcase Orion’s otherwise uninteresting artworks.” — JR

This exhibition had been organized a few months ago. The contents might remind some of the troubles Paris has endured this year, but Orion Giret’s street artworks, are never reflections of current events. He simply copies already existing art by others, the ones that culture questions, and makes art unknowingly redundant: street grafitti, copied from other street artists, which he will make on site; urine and feces paintings, such as of an erect penis, a burned-out twat; a prostitute's head covered with a smoky surface — a reflection of the human love of sex; a video loop of perfectly made human turds crashing into a wall like the numbing of endless repetition; photographs of his testicles he’d painted silver, a visual surface upon which he copies a graffiti tag; a fire extinguisher set out on a sidewalk, the interpolation of concrete blocks representing concrete blocks. Each work in its own way casts a reflective shadow on his own personal issues that affect nobody but himself. Their weaknesses also reside in the way they are made.
